where'd he go?

creating a city in the clouds

This piece was created after listening to an audio of Wilfredo introducing himself and telling his life story. I chose to have him with his arms crossed because he's a reserved person and doesn't trust people easily. He's from a poor family, thus, the empty safe and simple clothes. I showed the side of him that contemplated suicide by the flipping of the coin. He turned to his church for emotional support and since he felt it was what helped him through a very dark time while growing up, I felt it was important to have that in too. The books and papers are to symbolize that period of time when he was a student and at the bottom right of this piece, there is your typical school meal in one of the pages of the book and a clock beside it showing that it's noon. It's there because lunchtime would've been very important to him as it was an extra meal he could have for the day compared to if he didn't go to school for that day.At the top right, it has a moon to show nighttime and a section each of spaghetti, a sandwich and noodles sitting on it. These were the typical meals he would have for dinner. The paint applied is to show how complicated and messy his life was. I felt like I could use it as another way to tell his story too.

TITLE: FLORAL REPAIRS The morning-glory flowers have opened, patching My hermitage's roof, which need thatching

My interpretation of 'the morning-glory flowers have opened' (therefore the sun is up. morning-glory only bloom when there's sunlight) the sun refers to a very positive-energy & happy person. This person patches 'my hermitage's(the dwelling of a hermit esp. when small & remote) roof' which gives me the impression that the writer is someone who does not have a 'home' & is lost or troubled. 'which need thatching(a covering of such a material)' tells me that the writer seeks comfort of some sort. Therefore I interpreted the Haiku as a positive person who comes & radiates warmth to the troubled person. I depicted the troubled one as an infant because when your at your lowest point, you're as vulnerable as a baby.
